Okay, so, I love the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time, and Stakes is probably my favourite out of the three miniseries. During one of my rewatches, I decided to write down a vague timeline of events so I could try and figure out how much time passes over the course of the miniseries; then I figured that I might as well put it up on here. Maybe it'll be interesting and/or useful in some way to someone else out there ^^ Enjoy.
Episode 1 ("Marceline the Vampire Queen"): Starts in the afternoon or possibly early evening -> Evening (Marceline is cured) -> Night (Vampire dream) -> End of day 1
Morning (Villagers call Finn and Jake) -> Afternoon (Finn and Jake go to the cabin) -> Night (F+J chase protovamp) -> Sunrise/End of day 2
Episode 2 ("Everything Stays"): Sunrise/Start of day 3 (same sunrise that ends ep 1). Most of this ep is a flashback, so not much time actually passes in it. The episode ends in the morning of day 3.
Episode 3 ("Vamps About"): Morning (of day 3) -> Early afternoon (the sky is orange by the time Marceline leaves for the Ice Kingdom). Note that all the scenes with the vamps are darker because there's a magic "canopy" shielding them from the sun (this isn't directly stated in the show, but it's in the storyboards) which can be confusing, but if you pay attention, only a couple of hours appear to pass in this ep.
Episode 4 ("The Empress Eyes"): Episode takes place entirely in the daytime, of day 3.
Episode 5 ("May I Come In"): Now, this one I'm not sure about. It starts at the very end of sunset. Marceline mentions the events of the previous episode, so this could still be the same day as in the last two eps (day 3), or it could be the next day. Personally, I believe it's the same day, just later on; the dialogue exchanged at the beginning would seem weird to say a day later. ("see Marcy, isn't vampire hunting better with friends?" makes sense if said later on in the same day that she tries to fight vamps alone, right?) Plus I don't imagine they'd hang around and do nothing for a whole day. So IMO most evidence points towards this one starting on the sunset of day 3 -> Night -> Marceline passes out (at night. of day 3.)
Episode 6 ("Take Her Back"): Morning/Start of day 4 (Marceline comes to) -> Early afternoon (F+J find The Moon; KOO scene) -> Sunset ("Wait.. take her back?") -> Night. Episode ends on the night of day 4.
Episode 7 ("Checkmate"): Again, I'm not sure about this one. The last ep ends at night, with the gang (including PepBut) in the Candy Kingdom. This one begins at night, with PepBut at Gumbald's cabin and the rest of the gang hanging out in the forest. However, it's not clear if this is still the same night (day 4) or if this is the next night (day 5); unlike w/ "May I Come In", there's no dialogue to suggest anything either way - the closest thing is Marceline mentioning her coma dream, and that's still not conclusive IMO... it's plausible to me that they could've gone home, rested for the day, then gone out again. ALTHOUGH come to think of it, if they did that, maybe they would've eaten at home instead of having a picnic in the woods. So perhaps after "Take Her Back" ends, they sent PepBut home to put the picnic together and the rest of the gang went into the woods to prepare. Hmmmm. Well either way, this ep starts on either the night of day 4 or the night of day 5, then -> VK gets cured (night) -> Sunrise of day 5 or 6 (VK's vampire essence gets out, episode ends)
Episode 8 ("The Dark Cloud"): Day (Dark Cloud fight) -> Night (End of episode). Episode takes place on either day 5 or day 6.
So it's difficult to tell for sure, since the timelines of "Checkmate" and, to a lesser extent, "May I Come In", are somewhat unclear. But as far as I can tell, either 5 or 6 days pass over the course of the "Stakes" miniseries.
Here's another timeline, this one might be easier to read:
Day 1: First half of "Marceline the Vampire Queen"
Day 2: Second half of "Marceline the Vampire Queen"
Day 3: Last minute or so of "Marceline the Vampire Queen", "Everything Stays", "The Empress Eyes", most likely all of "May I Come In"
Day 4: "Take Her Back", likely 99% of "Checkmate"
Day 5: Last scene of "Checkmate", all of "The Dark Cloud"
Again, this assumes that "May I Come In" takes place the same day as "The Empress Eyes", and that "Checkmate" takes place a few hours after "Take Her Back" ends.
Adventure Time and all related things are the property of Pendleton Ward, Cartoon Network, and Frederator Studios. I do not own Adventure Time and am not claiming to, I'm just a fan who got bored and was incredibly infuriated that this scene was cut in the UK ;).
