Day 5: Monday 03 July 2023
New York
BTTF:TM Fifth Preview
Tonight was our final time seeing the show :( It's gone by so quickly...
Mew spent the morning and early afternoon typing up stuff on her laptop, so we didn't get out until around 4 pm.
Mew: We spent about 20 minutes looking around this display that was on the bottom floor of the hotel, dedicated to its history. Lots of old flyers and photos and such, with music playing in the background that had been recorded there back in World War 2. It was very fascinating and interesting to look through.
After that, we went back to the BTTF Store to buy more things and have a proper look around. It was fairly empty at this time of day (nearly 5 pm by the time we got there), so we were able to browse at our leisure (and take more/better photos!), unlike on Friday.
That's the design on the door reflecting onto the floor. Despite all the pollution in New York, the sun is still very bright!
They had the designer skateboard back in stock, but not the time circuit plaques we'd heard they had on the first day.
Mew: They had gotten new merch in already - the hair scrunchies (above the "Great Scott!" ballcaps) had only been put out today, I believe.
Mew ended up getting another tote bag (her Mum had claimed the one they bought on Friday), the Making Of book, and two cool postcard sets - you can see one set in the photo above.
Mew: I've been wanting merch of these designs for ages now... in the Adelphi they have posters of them around the theatre, but nothing you can buy. So these postcards were a must-have!
After that, we explored for a bit before the show... got some food while Mew flipped through her new book, and went to Walgreens to try and find some travel sickness medicine for the trip home, but could only find the drowsy stuff :/ Then before we knew it, it was time for BTTF again.
The line moved very quickly today, we didn't even have to line up around the corner this time :D
Today's cast board. When we got inside, we were surprised to find out that today was the debut performance of Blakely Slaybaugh as Strickland!!! Mew was bouncing into the auditorium after reading that ^_^
Mew: I got one of the cool souvenir cups they had today. They had two designs, a big BTTF one, and a smaller Winter Garden one (not show-specific). Annoyingly, they wouldn't let you buy just the cup, you HAD to buy a drink to go with it (they didn't even have just water!), and they were expensive too! It cost about $30 altogether. Grr. Despite this, we noticed quite a few people left their cups on the floor/threw them away after the performance?! I ended up picking up one of the smaller ones and taking it back with me, so as to have one of each design... hey, they'd only throw it away anyway, right?
Still in Orchestra for tonight. Sitting further back than we were on Sunday, but closer than on Friday.
The show was great, I especially liked Blakely as Mr. Strickland ^_^ They've already changed quite a few things since Friday. A funny thing that happened was that Roger Bart (Doc's actor) played a prank on Casey (Marty) near the end of act 1 :D At yesterday's show (Sunday matinee), a lot went wrong, one thing was that Casey came into one scene late, leaving Roger to ad-lib for a while until he turned up. Well today, when we got to that bit, Roger intentionally came on slightly late, as payback ^_~ It's hard to describe if you weren't there, but it was really hilarious.
Mew: When we left the theatre, there was someone (not affiliated with the show - they were a street performer/freelancer) with their own DeLorean outside, letting people take photos with it for tips and such. I couldn't resist snapping this quick pic.
We stopped off at a nearby Junior's restaurant for some cheesecake, as one of Mew's friends had said she HAD to try it ^^ Since it was getting late, we got it to-go.
Back on the good old 27th floor!
Here's the cheesecake ^^ Mew had it and then went to bed way too late, as usual... staying up late typing up notes on the trip again. But I was having trouble getting to sleep too, knowing that we had just one more full day left in New York after this...
