- Brave, spunky, cheerful. Impudent at times, sometimes blunt (speaks without thinking).
- Competitive, never turns down a challenge.
- If you don't tell her your name right away, she'll give you a nickname (and continue to use it, even if corrected). If you do tell her your name and she can't pronounce it, she'll shorten it.
- Her older brother is Wade. His parents adopted her, but then they died, so now Wade looks after her. They live with a bunch of other people in a big house; the only other resident she really knows is Wally, who sometimes babysits her.
- Considers Sandy to be her best friend. None of the adults Kaitlyn knows can see "Ghostie"; when they ask Katie who she's talking to, she says "a nice lady with long hair". She's aware her friend is a ghost, but she's never really considered that that means she's dead (or how she died, etc).
- Her (other) best friend is Thursday; she doesn't get why Thursday is so shy and skittish, particularly around ghosts.
- Has a sixth sense (though she's unaware of this) and seems to be a magnet for ghosts... she also knows Miranda. Mira often tries to get Katie to enter into bets/dares - do things that aren't really "right", morally-speaking - Kaitlyn's unsure about her, but sometimes goes for it.
- Her and Adrian tend to annoy each other, and she sees him as something of a rival.
