Title: hot sweat and blurry eyes
Author: Carrehz
Fandom: A Goofy Movie
Pairing(s): PJ/Bobby
Warning(s): None
Notes: Wrote this a month ago while battling the accursed English weather. This is a standalone and not directly connected to my other fics (unless you want it to be!), but uses the same basic headcanons, i.e. Bobby having photophobia. Enjoy! :)
hot sweat and blurry eyes
"It's so hot," PJ complained yet again; he'd long since lost track of how many times he'd said so. He sat slumped against the kitchen doorframe, head tilted. Sweat ran down his neck onto his collarbone, his shirt sticking to him. It was hellishly hot inside the house, even with all the windows open.
It hadn't been as bad earlier on. Max and Bobby had come over to hang out - it was really too hot to do much more than sit around and whine about the heat, but that had been enjoyable enough, the air conditioning keeping the worst of the heat at bay. That is, until they'd heard a series of noises and yells from PJ's dad, followed by the distinctive holler of Max's dad that generally indicated something had gone badly wrong, then finally a loud CLUNK. PJ and Max had exchanged glances - Bobby following suit a beat later, still not fully used to the intricacies of the Pete/Goof households - and rushed off, as quickly as one could in such weather, to see what their dads had screwed up this time.
PJ never did find out exactly what had happened, but whatever it was, it had broken the AC unit seemingly beyond repair and bought both of their dads a trip to the hospital. His mother had relayed this info to him in that dangerous, too-sweet voice that she got whenever his dad got himself into trouble, alternating between that and yelling over her shoulder at his dad whenever he tried to move. Max had shrugged apologetically to PJ and Bobby and hopped in the back seat next to his own dad, and before either boy could blink, the car had driven off, leaving them alone in a now boiling-hot house. Any hope of doing anything productive that day had been quickly forgotten in favour of just lying on the kitchen floor - the coolest part of the house they'd found so far - and slowly melting into it.
Bobby lay on his back a few inches away, spread out on the cool kitchen tiles, his long hair a tangled mess bunched up around his head and neck, stray hairs curling everywhere from the humidity. He was shirtless, his necklace stuck to his bare chest, sandals sticking to the tiles. One arm was flung over his eyes to protect them from the searing-bright sunlight, teashades dangling from his hand.
"You could take off your shirt too," he suggested, not moving from this position as he spoke.
"Dude, no," PJ replied, sliding down a little. "No one wants to see me shirtless. I don't want to see me shirtless," he added.
"I do."
A pause. He looked over at Bobby, whose arm had shifted up his face just a little, one eye narrowed but peeking out at him. PJ stared at him for a few beats, trying to figure out how to respond, several thoughts racing through his brain at once as he felt his face burn even hotter than it already was. Up 'til now his mind had been moving at half speed - it was the kind of heat where even thinking was too much effort - but now it was working overtime just from those two words.
"Heheh, you're goin' all re-eeedddd," Bobby teased, his laughter weaker and more subdued than normal. Clearly the heat was hitting him hard, too. PJ shook his head, trying to clear it, one foot darting out to gently kick Bobby's leg in retaliation.
"Quit it."
"Awww, come ooooonnn." Bobby shoved his glasses roughly back onto his face and sat up a bit, grinning. "No one else's around, dude..."
PJ was halfway towards nudging him again when he paused, considering this. It was true enough. He wasn't sure how long they'd been alone in the house together, or what the time was now - time seemed to run differently in this heat, the day moving at snail's pace. But Pistol was at a friend's house for a sleepover, wouldn't be back until tomorrow, and past experience told him it'd probably be a few more hours until his parents got back...
He looked back at Bobby, the corners of his mouth quirked, halfway to a smile. "Not in this weather," he settled on eventually.
"Bummer." He sat up fully, looking at PJ. His glasses were lopsided, exposing his eyes, a grin on his face. PJ hesitated.
"...What."
"I'm just thinkin.'" He shuffled forward on his knees, awkwardly, leaning closer and closer to PJ - then abruptly, he pulled away, flopping back down on the floor next to him.
"Dude, what the heck-"
"It's too hooootttttttt," Bobby whined, "I wanna kiss you but it's too hot to do anything!"
"K-keep your voice down," PJ hissed, looking up at the open windows worriedly. "Someone'll hear you." Bobby didn't answer, just made another whining noise. PJ looked back down at Bobby, watching him. He was lying on his back again, eyes closed, glasses halfway up his face, head flung back across the threshold between the kitchen and living room. PJ's eyes flicked up and down, taking in all the details, watching the soft curve of Bobby's stomach rise and fall as he breathed, feeling his own breath hitch in response.
Before he could stop himself, he was leaning over, hands planting themselves either side of Bobby. Bobby's eyes opened when he felt PJ brush against him, looking at him with surprise from under his still-lopsided glasses. "Dude-"
"C'mere," PJ breathed, leaning in and kissing the other boy. Bobby made a soft "mmph" of surprise beneath him, before his tongue flicked out, licking against PJ's lips. It was entirely too hot for this, the air tinged unpleasantly with the scent of sweat, and yet in this present moment it suddenly didn't seem to matter as much, neither able to think of anything apart from the other. PJ's lips parted, his breath heavy, and Bobby leaned up and into the kiss, glasses knocking against his face, one arm raising and flopping uselessly against PJ's back as he tried and failed to get a proper grip on his sweat-damp shirt, their bodies pressing against each other...
He wasn't sure which one of them pulled away first, the heat emanating from both of them finally becoming too much. PJ leaned back on his heels, panting, his breaths quick and almost entirely in sync with Bobby's.
"Dude," Bobby gasped after a few seconds, "That was really hot."
"L-literally," PJ replied, giggling weakly. They looked at one another, both smiling.
"Okaaaayyy, maybe no kissing today," Bobby conceded, narrowing his eyes against the sun again instead of pushing his glasses back down. PJ didn't bother to shush him this time, just lay down on the floor next to him, as close as he could bear while keeping enough of a distance between them to keep the heat at bay.
"You want me to pull down the blinds?"
"Nah." Bobby shifted down a bit, bumping his head against the top of PJ's arm, hand groping around until he found PJ's. PJ could feel their gloves sticking to one another as he tangled their fingers together, but he didn't move away. "Maybe later. 'S not that bad."
"Mm." He squeezed Bobby's hand slightly. He knew they'd probably regret holding hands later, sharing their warmth, but right now he honestly couldn't care less, his desire to be close to his boyfriend outweighing the discomfort of the heat.
